The Diocese of Lexington is a Church committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in the world. Our diocese is over 6,000 members in 34 Faith Communities spread across the eastern half of Kentucky along with several inspirational ministries. Our total annual budget is approximately $1.8 million. Our office is located at 203 E Fourth St, Lexington, KY 40508 and our staff team of nine full-time and one part-time employees is hard-working, collaborative, and flexible in their service for our Faith Communities and Ministries so that they can Be the Church and Be the Change.

You will take your place in the diocesan leadership team holding the essential leadership role of managing the business and operations of the diocese as you help bring the diocesan vision to fruition. You will enable others by modeling a strong service orientation and join with our other staff to equip, empower, and enable our faith communities and diocesan ministries to flourish. You are able to relate to and work with faith communities of diverse sizes and cultures.

 Reporting Relationships:

This is a key leadership position and member of the diocesan senior leadership team. You will report directly to the Bishop. The Missioner of Operations and Finance (MOF) works as the collaborative team leader to the Support Team, composed of the Administrative Assistant, Missioner for Communications, and bookkeeper. Managing a diocesan operation requires a high level of empathy and healthy boundaries in dealing with others, as well as a Christ-inspired view of the world. The culture of Mission House is centered around service to our Faith Communities and Diocesan Ministries in a collaborative leadership approach. The MOF will model these characteristics for the healthy operation of human, operational, IT, financial, and facility systems of our diocese. The cultural fit with our Diocese is a critical element for success.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Serve as a professional resource person to all faith communities and ministries of our Diocese.

  • Ensure the Diocese maintains compliance with the canons of The Episcopal Church, Canons of the Diocese of Lexington, grants and contracts, and applicable federal or state regulations.

  • Serve as a resource for other staff members to ensure each has what he/she needs to do their job properly.

  • Work with Bishop on processes and matters surrounding institutional development.

  • Serve as the primary staff liaison on several diocesan committees.

  • Appropriately handle confidential information of clergy, diocesan ministries, faith communities, and their members.

  • Oversee all safety and security protocols and ensure compliance with national, state, and local regulations.

 Finance

  • Ensure that proper controls exist and are followed in the handling and safekeeping of all diocesan assets.

  • Collaborate with the Bishop and Diocesan Treasurer (volunteer position) and Finance Committee (volunteers) in administration of all aspects of diocese finance including:

    -Leadership to Bishop in assessing financial trends and opportunities

    -Preparation of regular reports to Finance Committee and the Executive Council.

    -Oversee receipts and disbursements.

    -Schedule and support an annual audit of the diocese's financial statements by external auditors.

    -Development of annual budget with budget committee (volunteers)

    -Supervision of diocesan bookkeeper.

 Administration

  • Information Technology and Human Resources

    -In coordination with the leadership team, oversee the work of the diocesan administrative assistant.

    -In coordination with the leadership team, oversee the work of the diocesan missioner for communications.

    -Oversee office equipment and purchasing.

    -Ensure highest security and technology safeguards are in place.

    -Administer Human Resources system for all employees with Personnel Committee.

    -Prepare all required reporting, including Diocesan Report for the Episcopal Church, and monitor compliance by our Faith Communities and Ministries.

    -Oversee diocese filing system.

    -Oversee purchasing for office and church supplies.

  • Building and Grounds

    -Oversee the use, maintenance, and upkeep of our buildings, grounds, and parking lot.

    -Coordinate the scheduled use of our building.

  • Pensions and Insurance

    -Administer health insurance and dental plans in our diocese.

    -Administer Diocesan Property Insurance and be a resource for our Faith Communities and Ministries.

    -Facilitate safety inspections at faith communities and ministry locations.

    -Network with Church Pension Group and serve as diocesan administrator for the Church’s pension program.

 Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience managing an organization with comparable complexity and dynamics as our Diocese is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, or qualified training in a related field preferred.

  • Strong understanding and prior oversight of accounting and finance functions is required.

  • Prior direct responsibility for facilities management is required.

  • An emphasis on maintenance and buildings utilization such as an office manager role is preferred.

  • Prior experience managing an employee staff and outside contractors is required.

  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff and broader members of the diocese team is preferred. Demonstrated evidence in administering policies and procedures is preferred.

  • Satisfactory system skills are required.

  • Prior experience utilizing church management software is preferred.

  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, and Word are required.

  • Must be willing to submit to a background check.

Compensation Package

This is a full-time leadership salaried position that includes an attractive package:

  • Salary range is 65,000–75,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

  • Benefits include single Medical, Dental, Life Insurance, and Prescription Drug coverage.

  • Retirement Benefit through Church Pension Group.
