Midday Musical Menu: Jan. 15
The next luncheon concert is this Wednesday (January 15) at 12:15 p.m. and features tenor Jack K. Cox and pianist John Deaver in a program of songs by American composers Ned Rorem (1923-2022), Samuel Barber (1910-1981), and Wilmer Hayden Welsh (1932-2007).
Jack has chosen three of Barber’s Hermit Songs along with two other songs ending with the sublime “Sure on This Shining Night” on a poem of James Agee. Wilmer Hayden Welsh’s great uncle Albert Bollinger was organist-choirmaster at Trinity from 1890 to 1947! Jack will sing Welsh’s Songs of the Seasons: A Cycle of Four Songs for High Voice and Piano composed in 1983 on original poetry depicting the seasons of the year. John will also play Welsh’s Hymn and Variations on the Welsh tune “Rhosymedre.”
Lunch is available in the May Room from 11:30 a.m. for $7.00. The concert is free.
