Martha Folts, harpsichordist, organist, and clavichordist, played a harpsichord recital on the first season of the Midday Musical Menu luncheon concerts and has regularly returned since then. She has presented recitals and workshops of 16 th —18 th century keyboard repertoire at community venues, college and universities throughout the United States. Her European concerts have taken her to The Netherlands, France, Germany, and Denmark. She completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in harpsichord performance at the University of Michigan in 2000, studying with Edward Parmentier. Her recorded performances on both organ and harpsichord have been broadcast on WGUC-FM in Cincinnati and over Minnesota Public Radio. She and her late husband Steve lived in Cincinnati for 16 years, when Martha served as Director of Music at Church of the Advent and then North Presbyterian Church. Wednesday’s concert was recorded in Martha’s home in Chelsea, Michigan. She plays a lautenwerk, a harpsichord sounding very much like a lute with gut rather than metal strings.
