The Eucharist of the Last Supper and the Washing of Feet Music by the Trinity Choir
On Maundy Thursday, Christians remember the gathering of Jesus and his disciples for the Last Supper. Foot washing has also been a tradition of Maundy Thursday, following Jesus command: "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." We demonstrate this love by re-enacting the scene from the Gospel of John when Jesus washes the feet of his disciples. At the end of the service, as the choir chants Psalm 22, the bread and wine that remain from Communion are moved to the Altar of Repose. Slowly and reverently the candles, other vessels, and books are removed. When the sanctuary is bare, all depart in silence.
