May 20: Midday Musical Menu

The final luncheon concert of our 45th season is Wednesday (May 20) at 12:15 p.m. and features music of American composer William Albright (1944-1998). The program will begin with Hymn 227 from the Hymnal 1982, Come, Thou Holy Spirit Bright, sung by Jax Cox. Written in 1983 the composer said that his tune β€œis an attempt to integrate chromaticism (and dissonance) into the nobility of English hymn-style.” The main work of the program is The King of Instruments: A Parade of Music and Verse for Organ and Narrator. The piece was written in 1978 and gives a delightful tour of the sounds of the pipe organ. Albright had a great sense of humor! Lunch is available from 11:30 a.m. in the May Room for $7.00. The concert is free.
