May 20: Midday Musical Menu

The final luncheon concert of our 45th season is Wednesday (May 20) at 12:15 p.m. and features music of American composer William Albright (1944-1998). The program will begin with Hymn 227 from the Hymnal 1982, Come, Thou Holy Spirit Bright, sung by Jax Cox. Written in 1983 the composer said that his tune “is an attempt to integrate chromaticism (and dissonance) into the nobility of English hymn-style.” The main work of the program is The King of Instruments: A Parade of Music and Verse for Organ and Narrator. The piece was written in 1978 and gives a delightful tour of the sounds of the pipe organ. Albright had a great sense of humor! Lunch is available from 11:30 a.m. in the May Room for $7.00. The concert is free.
