Interim Rector Report: Sep. 20

Dear Trinity Church,

Pope Francis recently said, "We pray for the hungry, then we feed the hungry. That is how prayer works." Well, it’s working in the courtyard at Trinity Church Covington, and most of the time, I have no idea who is making it happen. Not everyone is comfortable being in front of groups of people, and some may feel that this limits their ministry. This is not true. I learned early on that a ministry of absence can be just as effective and impactful.

The brown bag ministry, which provides lunch for people during the week, is a wonderful example. The meals are prepared and then left in the refrigerators in the courtyard. Every morning, people wander in, take a bag, and some stop at my office window to yell thank you or wave. They have no idea who prepared these meals, but they are so thankful and appreciative—and the impact is significant. Proof that a ministry of absence is yet another sign of God's amazing grace.

If you want to be part of this amazing ministry of absence that feeds people almost every day, let me know, and I’ll point you in the right direction.

Sincerely,
Jason
