Interim Rector Report: Sep. 27
Dear Trinity Church,
People often ask me, "How big is your church?" My response is always the same: 85 million people! This usually leads to some confusion, so I explain that the Anglican Communion is a global denomination—one church with many locations. The Communion is organized into geographic areas, and the principal geographic unit is a diocese, led by a bishop. Trinity Church is part of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington, which includes 6,000 members in 34 faith communities across 64 counties and is led by Bishop Mark Van Koevering. For more information on the structure of the Episcopal church, WATCH this helpful short video.
I recently attended the annual clergy conference, where clergy from our diocese gathered for prayer, study, and fellowship. Many stories of renewal and hope were shared from other congregations, and when I was introduced as the interim rector of Trinity, I received many words of welcome and support. I learned that Trinity has a strong and faithful reputation in our diocese and has provided leadership in many areas over the years.
As you’ll see in this email, the annual Diocesan Convention will take place in November, and there are many opportunities to serve. If you don’t feel called to serve at the diocesan level, would you consider serving our own parish? Nominations are now open—until October 12—for Vestry and Diocesan Convention candidates, and we need you to serve in Vestry! Yes, you! Find out more about being a Vestry member or Diocesan Convention Deputy at this link.
It’s a big church, and faithful people are always needed to continue our common ministry of Christ in this corner of the Kingdom. If you have any questions, I would be glad to answer them or connect you with a Trinity member who has previously served at the diocesan level.
I promise it will be a learning experience, you will make new friends, and you will grow in faith.
The Lord be with you,
Jason
