Interim Rector Report: Jun. 6
Dear Trinity Church,
Shavuot, or the Feast of Weeks, is a major holiday in Judaism that marks the beginning of the harvest and commemorates the giving of the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai.
The apostles were in Jerusalem for Shavuot celebrations when the Holy Spirit descended upon them and those gathered with them. This moment—49 days after Easter—was so significant and transformational that it became known as the birthday of the Church.
In Italy, churches traditionally scatter rose petals to symbolize the fiery tongues seen on that first Pentecost. And in our corner of the kingdom, it is a tradition to wear RED on Pentecost Sunday—a visible sign of the Spirit’s presence. I look around Trinity every day and I see that same Spirit alive and moving in our midst—in worship, fellowship, education, and outreach. To be part of a Spirit-filled community like ours is a gift and a joy to behold.
In the days between Jesus’ Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the disciples gathered and devoted themselves constantly to prayer as they waited for the Spirit’s outpouring. In that same spirit, I invite you to participate in Thy Kingdom Come Day of Prayer on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. in the church octagon area. We hope to create an unbroken chain of prayer throughout the day. Please sign up or simply show up for a 30-minute slot, and pray in whatever way is meaningful to you.
So, wear RED this Sunday, and even more importantly, embrace and celebrate the Spirit that blesses all of us!
The Lord be with you,
Fr. Jason Leo
